Follow Your Flame
Contemplating my future while drinking a matcha latte

Give your very best energy to the thing that excites you, the thing that gives you that giddy jolt of wonder and makes you want to learn more. More. MORE.
Let go of expectations regarding the endgame. Who knows where this path leads? Who knows what’s at the end of the rainbow? Who cares if you succeed or fail?
It’s about the going, the following, the fire that’s heating you up right now.
I’m not lecturing. I’m just telling you what I’ve been telling myself.
I love this message. This “CURIOSITY and EXCITEMENT are exactly the right breadcrumbs” message.
I love it, and…
I’m so scared of following the path of Excitement and Curiosity that sometimes I talk myself into believing that it’s not the path at all. I find myself BEGGING myself to be excited and curious about something else.
I’m almost 56 years old. I have a PhD in something 100% NOT art-related and the student loans to show for it. How can art, illustration, and storytelling be the path that I step onto? How does that make any sense at all?
Well, if I try to look at the possible outcome…
If I concern myself with expectations of success and failure…
If I worry about what the outside world has to say about such a shift…
Then it doesn’t make any sense at all.
And yet…
I can’t deny what lights my little flame or how it feels when it’s happily flickering. I love to make things. I love to learn about the hows and the whats and the whys of creating. I would rather read about the history of Hooker Green than read even one more paragraph about a new therapeutic technique.
I’m tired of thinking about what I don’t want to do anymore.
I want the courage to focus on the flame.
So, Great Dancing Creatrix who Spins Ribbons of Substance and Wild Energy, please make it so.

You and I start our morning the same way! I can’t do the day without my matcha latte 🍵💕 I also have to follow the flame—I don’t always have the same path, because the flame is the path. Love this thoughtful post, and all the things you create.
